This month’s glam bag is all about confidence. It’s August, which means that we should all be at the height of our summer glows making it the perfect time of year to take that “selfie with no filter,” to quote the insert that came in my bag. And Ipsy is here this month to put the finishing touches on that selfie. More on that later, but first, here’s an overview of everything that came in this month’s bag:
And, now let’s break it down starting with this month’s skincare samples:
This month’s bag came with two skincare products, an eye cream and a serum. You can never go wrong with a good eye cream and what can I say about the serum except that it’s black tea flavored. I’m not a big tea drinker, but I do feel pretty posh when I daintily dab tea serum on my face in the morning, so there’s that.
But let’s move on to the main event (in my eyes), the makeup.
First up, we have this highlighting powder:
So, as I mentioned above, this month’s bag is all about those finishing touches on that late-summer selfie, and a selfie really isn’t a selfie without that glow, am I right? I didn’t get any pictures of the highlighter itself, but it is a nice golden shade, which provides a nice subtle glow.
Speaking of glow, this month’s bag also came with this shimmery eyeshadow palette:
This is a nice shimmery, smokey-eyed palette, although it is a bit powdery for my liking (as you can probably tell by the smudging around the pan). The matte color (top left) is really nice and pigmented, and I was able to use it in my crease to create a nice dramatic look. But the shimmer shades are much less pigmented and I did have to really dig in there to get a good amount on my brush. And, there was considerable fall out, so this is definitely a product to apply before putting on foundation, concealer, etc.
Which brings us to our final selfie essential from this month’s glam bag, which is this mascara:
So, I get a lot of mascaras in my beauty bags and boxes, and I don’t always get the chance to try them out, since I’m usually putting makeup on to get ready for work, and when I’m rushing to get out the door I really want to put on products that I know work for me. But lately I’ve been rediscovering the mascaras of glam bags past, and one of those is a MAC mascara, which I absolutely loved. I don’t think it was quite the same as this one, but I was definitely excited for this mascara this month!
And so, with this month’s theme in mind, I decided to try and create a look using this month’s products, and here’s my #selfie (with some filters #sorrynotsorry)
So, as you can see, the glow from the highlighter provides a very subtle glow for my skintone. But this is a good thing because the only thing I had to do today was hang out with my 4-year-old niece and my two nephews, an 8-year-old and a 6-month-old, so I was worried about looking too done up for an afternoon with the family. But, I was pleasantly surprised by this highlighter, which provided a nice glow without making me look like I was ready for glamour shot. This worked really nicely as an inner corner highlight as well, and it went nicely with the shadows.
Speaking of the shadows- for this look, I only used three of the four shades in the quad. But, here is a breakdown of what I did:
And here’s a better shot of the finished look:
As you can see, that bronzy color that I put in the outer thirds really showed up nicely, but that pinky shade didn’t come through as much in the middle, and I was really digging into the pan. I tried every trick in the book, but I still couldn’t get it to show up the way that I wanted. But, aside from that, I was pretty happy with how this look came out, and I really like this mascara!
So, this month’s glam bag was a success in my book! And I already can’t wait to see what goodies I get in next month’s bag!
