Ipsy Glam Bag Unboxing: July 2018

Mermaids are everywhere this summer– from Tarte’s line of mermaid palettes, brushes, and eyelash curlers to this month’s Ipsy glam bag, this summer everyone is celebrating the iridescence of the sea and its most mythical creature, the mermaid.

Technically this month’s theme is not quite mermaid inspired but rather more about the “pool-ready makeup bag”– to quote Ipsy. But, regardless, this month’s bag is filled with goodies for water lovers of either the land or sea variety:

Hydration seems to be a major focus of this month’s products, starting with this Nature Recipe Sheet Mask duo:

Tea tree and honey sounds like the beginning of a recipe for a deliciously hot and soothing beverage, so I can’t wait to test out these masks the next time my skin needs a little homestyle comfort. The tea tree mask is especially geared toward calming the skin by relieving redness and irritation; whereas the honey mask seems like more of an everyday sort of mask that claims to be rich with nutrients that revitalize the skin.

The next product in this month’s bag seems to be along these same lines– hydrating skin care, only this time it’s in the form of a cream:

I have seen this brand everywhere this summer, so I’m excited to try them out for myself. And, you can never have too many moisturizers, right?

I’ll be honest, though, I’m not really much of a skincare kind of girl.  I am, however, a makeup girl, and this month’s bag offered a nice balance between the two product types, with three different makeup products, starting with this setting powder by Bellápierre Cosmetics :

And, no, it does not smell like bananas– I checked, like three times. It actually doesn’t smell like anything, which is probably ideal for a setting powder, but I was kind of hoping it would smell like a banana. Setting powders are one of those products that I love getting in my glam bags because it’s the type of product that I’m not super familiar with, but it’s something that all the beauty gurus have, so I like being able to experiment with different brands to see which ones work best for me.

Another product that I always love to find in my glam bags is eyeshadow, and this month’s bag did not disappoint:

In both my May and June bags I got metallic shadows, so this month’s matte was a nice change of pace.

Neither of these pictures quite do justice to this shadow, but then again, neither does the shadow itself– there’s an orangey quality to it when I swatched it that you can’t quite see in these pictures or even IRL when you just look at it in the pan.  But, it definitely seems like it will be a nice transition shade that’s not quite like anything I have currently. Plus, I’ve received lots of products by TheBalm in previous bags, and I’ve always enjoyed them, so I have high hopes for this one.  Also, check out the size of that pan! There’s a lot of shadow here to play around with!

And last but not least, a lipstick that would surely make Ariel proud:

I got the color Ibiza, which is listed as a deep rosy-pink on the Ipsy product page. The bottle looks more red than you might expect from this color description though, so I was surprised when I put it on and saw how much pink it actually had in it. It’s probably not a shade I’m going to reach for on an everyday basis, but it’s a cool shade that I’m excited to play around with.

So, that’s this month’s Ipsy glam bag. What do you think? How did I do? I’m pretty happy with the month’s bag overall.

If you have Ipsy, what did you get in your July bag? Any products you’re dying to try out? Let us know in the comments!
